Off the coast of Iceland is a mysterious cabin, alone and away from it all

Off the Icelandic coast is an archipelago, the Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar in Icelandic). All the islands are uninhabited except the largest, Heimaey, populated by 4142 people living mainly from fishing. But in the middle of this archipelago sits a small island, Elliðaey, which houses a mysterious cabin, lonely, and has attracted much attention.

This island was inhabited there about 300 years; five families subsisted by fishing, hunting puffins and livestock farming. But in the 30s, the last permanent residents left. It is unclear why, desires also probably. Some speculated that the island was bought by the singer Bjork, others thought that it belonged to an eccentric billionaire. The truth is out there, as this secluded cabin is simply a refuge and a sauna for a local hunting association ...

Unfortunately, breeding puffins has almost disappeared in the southern half of Iceland. The weight of tradition could finish what climate change has begun. Personally I would not mind it for recreation and reflection, in the manner of Tesson, do you?
